Summer Camp Counselor Full Time Temporary

The University of Maine is hiring Camp Counselors for the 2025 summer season! As a Camp Counselor, you will lead a group of up to 12 campers through daily activities, teach engaging lessons, and ensure a fun, safe, and inclusive camp environment. Counselors reside on-site in cabins with campers and play an essential role in mentoring youth through outdoor adventures, team-building, and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead camper lessons and activities, including canoeing, outdoor cooking, conservation education, and wilderness survival.
• Supervise campers and foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment.
• Participate in a one-week paid training to develop leadership and teaching skills.
• Live on-site in a cabin with up to 9 campers, modeling responsibility and teamwork.
• Maintain safety standards and mentor youth through problem-solving and decision-making.
• Assist with camp operations, including meals, chores, and maintenance duties.

Schedule & Benefits:

• Work Schedule: Sunday–Friday, with occasional Saturday work.
• Time Off: Daily breaks Monday–Thursday; weekends off Friday afternoon–Sunday morning.
• Salary: $2,700 to $5,500 for season (6 to 10 weeks), commensurate with experience

Qualifications:

• Required: High school diploma, G.E.D, or equivalent.
• Preferred:
  • Passion for working with children in an outdoor setting.
  • Ability to lead activities in diverse outdoor environments.
  • Comfort carrying a small backpack with teaching supplies and first aid materials.
  • Physical ability to lead groups on varied terrain and assist in carrying canoes (85 lbs.) with others.
